22nd Annual International Competition of Art Creativity of Children and Youth Green World 2017
(Un)known Secrets of the Insect World

Competition background:

The Slovak Environment Agency is organising the 22nd Annual International Competition of Art Creativity of Children and Youth “GREEN WORLD 2017”, the announcer of which is the Ministry of Environment of the Slovak Republic. The competition is held under the auspices of the Representation of the European Commission in Slovakia, the Slovak Commission for UNESCO and the European Environment Agency.

Mission:

The Slovak Environment Agency seeks to inculcate children with a love for nature and the environment by creating habits and skills in artistic expression via the competition. Competing works should have a creative and motivating character, presenting the children's attitude to life and nature.

Topic: (Un)known Secrets of the Insect World

As far as the number of species and individuals is concerned, insects are the richest class in the animal kingdom. Every third animal on Earth is an insect, according to statistics. They are fascinating for their diversity, excellence and ingenious organisation. People use insect products such as honey, wax, bee glue, royal jelly, silk and many more daily. Insects are vital to man also because they pollinate plants, dispose of dead organisms and indirectly affect the quality of soil, but there are some human enemies in the insect realm, too. They can be, for example, carriers of various infectious diseases or parasites of humans, animals or plants. However, most species of the insect realm simply enrich the animal kingdom on Earth with their existence.

Your competition entries may display not only individual representatives of the rich insect empire, but you can capture their customs, rituals, places where they usually live, scenes from their lives - such as hard work, touching care for their progeny at different stages of development, their selfless sharing of food or even their cruel struggle for life - in your works as well.

Head out, watch these tiny creatures in their natural habitat and try to artistically depict the charming and extremely diverse insect realm with the help of drawings, paintings, graphics, photographs, animated films and comics.
